Dr. Frederick Marra was born in Cohoes, New York. He attended college at the University of Rochester, graduating in 1976. Following graduation, he attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He earned his D.M.D. degree in 1980, and stayed on to complete a residency training program in General Dentistry, completing this in 1981. In 1981, he returned to his hometown of Cohoes, New York and began to practice with his father, Dr. Harry W. L. Marra, making Capital Region for Complete Dental Care & Implants a general dental practice with 66 years of service. Since entering into private practice in 1981, Dr. Marra has followed a path of advancing his education. In 1989, he received his fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, successfully completing over 500 hours of education, followed by the successful completion of the written fellowship examination. He then went on in 2000 to earn his Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Marra earned an additional 600 hours of continuing education credits, with 400 of those hours in participation programs. He completed an American Academy of Implant Dentistry-sanctioned maxi course at Brookdale Hospital in New York, and successfully completed the written associate fellowship examination. He became a Fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantology. From 1982 through 1984, he completed a two-year orthodontic training program at the Institute for Graduate Dentists in New York City and has since completed numerous hours in orthodontic training. Dr. Marra is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, the International Congress of Oral Implantology, and the International Association of Orthodontics. Dr. Marra is director for a local chapter of a Seattle Dental Study Club, The Capital District Continuum for Advanced Dental Education. The club is a forum where local dentists are provided lectures from high profile academia throughout the country on varied topics in interdisciplinary dentistry. This club also provides a venue for open discussion of patient’s treatment plans, a truly unique opportunity in the Capital District for both the club members and their patients. Dr. Marra and his wife, Cindy, have two beautiful children, Natalie and Jake. In his spare time, Dr. Marra enjoys alpine skiing, road biking, water skiing and spending time in the Adirondack Mountains.
